A happy adoption story
Three years ago Apple decided to adopt a friend for her older cat Chanel, and as a gift for her daughter’s fifteenth birthday to teach her some responsibility. So the search began for the perfect kitty to join the family. Websites and pounds were scoured. Wanting to help a smaller rescue organisation they came across Maneki Neko Cat Rescue and fell in love with Charlie, a little tabby bub.
As it had been a long time since a baby of any species had been in the family, the first few weeks were hectic and sleep deprived, as Charlie was 12 weeks old and fidgety. Demanding to sleep on the bed, disrupting all other occupants’ dreams of a solid rest. As is the way, this new addition was too cute to resist and got his way. He has continued to be the dominant character in the house, with all members bowing to his demands. A new addition of a pug has not changed the pecking order, with Charlie bossing around the poor little lady.
Since being adopted he has learnt to sit and to high-five, showing that he is far superior and intelligent.
Apple has said that Maneki Neko were fantastic during and after the adoption process, keeping in touch and offering support during the transition.
She advises potential adoptive parents that there is never a right time for love to enter your life, but that you should adopt because the love that furbabies give is incredibly fulfilling, and makes you feel warm and fuzzy, just like your new addition to the family.
